The Outreach Award recognizes a Canadian organization, individual or team that has demonstrated sustained effort engaging the public in learning about chemistry and its impact on society.

2025 Recipient - Scientists in School

Scientists in School is a Canadian charity dedicated to sparking children’s curiosity about science and inspiring a lifelong passion for STEM during their formative Kindergarten to Grade 8 years. Founded in 1989 as a grassroots initiative in Durham Region, ON, it has grown into a nationally recognized leader in STEM education. Through hands-on, expert-led workshops, the organization makes STEM accessible and engaging for children and youth in all provinces and Territories.

Nominations

The competition is open to any Canadian organization, team, or person who has continually raised the awareness of the chemistry industry from an educational perspective and those who have a principal objective to further the application of chemistry and related sciences into industry for the public benefit.

The Outcomes Panel would consider: 1) Length of time this program has been in effect; 2) Demonstrated outcome to audience; and 3) Impact to industry, Canada or global perspective.

2024 Recipient - Society for Canadian Women in Science & Technology

The Society for Canadian Women in Science & Technology (SCWIST) enhances the presence and influence of women and girls in STEM fields—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics—through education, volunteering, networking, mentorship, collaborative partnerships, and collective advocacy. SCWIST envisions a world where girls and women can freely pursue their interests, education, and careers in STEM without facing any barriers.

2023 Recipients

Geoff is Professor Emeritus at the Grenfell Campus of Memorial University, and has been taking Chemistry Outreach to grade school students in remote communities; in particular, the Inuit students in Nunatsiavut, Nunavut, and NunatuKavut.

The Canada International Award is presented to an individual in recognition of outstanding service and contributions in the international sphere to an industry that is based on chemistry for its processes and/or services.

Canada Student Merit Awards

The SCI Canada Student Merit Award is awarded annually to the student who has achieved the highest standing in the 4th and final year of a chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering undergraduate program.
